warps..... June 26, 2010 William L. Mcgee 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
extremely handsome. but...it warps, folks. big time - about 1/2" across the least dimension. i do not recommend this at all!
Warped! 2X May 27, 2010 T. M. Parker (Beachwood, OH USA) I tried this product twice. Each time the product was unlevel (warped). What a disappointment.
J. Boos Maple Cutting Board April 20, 2010 Luke D. Thomas (San Diego) This has been a great board. It looks great. It was the perfect size for my counter top, 18 by 12 by 2 ¼- inch and I love the weight and thickness it has to it. Not sure of the specifics but it must weigh 15 to 20 pounds which I absolutely love. Periodically I've treated the board with mineral oil which can be found in Wal-Mart, Target and any pharmacy. The mineral oil has kept the board looking great and is essential to keeping the board in good condition. Not sure what else I can add that hasn't already been said other than I would recommend this cutting board to all my friends and family.
A great board April 13, 2010 Richard Kraus (Tampa Bay, FL.) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Not much to say that hasn't been said. It's a great board. If your on the fence, get one.
Board is quick under the knife, and feels "right" in use. The 18 X 24 X 2.25 size is heavy, and does not move, feels almost like it was part of the counter. The large size also allows one to prep multiple ingredients and push them to the side while other work is performed. (get a board scraper, like the OXO. Easy to move ingredients off the board, and safer than using your knife.)
Board misses five stars for not being end grain, and for being a little dry out of the box. The grain orientation is not a deal breaker for me, and should you wish it, Boos does make a number of end grain blocks and boards, just not in this size. As for the dryness, oiling a wood cutting board is part of ownership, and is done as needed anyway, just so happens it needed it right away. I use regular mineral oil from the pharmacy department at Target, good stuff and far cheaper than dedicated board oil. Boos mystery oil does combine Mineral Oil, Linseed Oil & Orange Oil, and is the recommended product, but is several times more expensive than plain mineral, and is much harder to find locally if your out and need it.
Excellent Product February 7, 2010 C. Dawkins (Atlanta, GA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought two Boos boards for my husband who cooks at home every day. They have been perfect for all of the vegetables and fruit that we prepare. The two laid side-by-side create an excellent work surface/space. They look nice if you want to leave them out. Theses boards are also great as they will not dull knives. I gave only 4 stars however, because both boards were very dry when they arrived and have required multiple coats of mineral oil. The last Boos board I bought did not have this problem; we oiled it only after several hand-washes.
Overall, we are very satisfied with the cutting boards. They are definitely superior to other wooden boards. And they last a very long time.
