Great Microphone September 6, 2010 Happy Customer Microphone is great. Sound makes your voice sound better than in real life. This microphone is excellent and easy to use. This microphone is professional quality and installs to your USB hum.
Great Podcasting Mic September 3, 2010 Ed Shull (Laguna Niguel, CA United States) I was looking for a professional quality microphone for podcasting, but didn't want to spend too much. After doing a fair amount of research, I came across the AT2020 USB. I had originally planned on going with a mic and separate preamp. But after doing some test recordings with this mic it's clear that I won't need to do that. I put this together with the pop filter and shockmount recommended on Amazon, and put it all on a nice stand. It sounds great, and looks really impressive, especially for the little I paid for it.
So far the sound has been more than acceptable. I even used the mic with a pair of headphones to make calls on Skype. According to everyone I have spoken to, I sound much better than when I call from a landline. The mic also plugged in nicely to my Mac and was easy to use with Garageband.
If you're looking for a mic for podcasting, trust me, this is the best you're going to find without paying 5x as much.
Great price, great quality. September 3, 2010 Jeremy (Spokane, WA) I purchased this microphone on Amazon about a month ago. I've used it in two projects already, voice-work for flash cartoons. It's got a closeness sound, with its large condenser. It is sensitive when in range. It can pick up moisture in your mouth, whispers, and it's very directional, sounds coming behind it aren't picked up, like a PC fan, or other minimal noises. I use it with Goldwave, a really old program that records input, and I adjust the level with Windows built-in recording levels. I see a nice flat line on the WAV file, when no intentional sounds are made. It's very convenient with the USB connection. The USB cord is fairly long to reach the computer from multiple set-ups. At roughly $100, it's well worth it. My set-up also includes a desktop mic stand, pop filter, and Samson spider mount, that are recommended at the "frequently bought" section. If you also get the Samson spider mount, look for small cushioned adhesives, like on cabinet doors, because there is a small gap that could cause the mic to rattle the base of the mount in an unstable environment. I refer to BrickSh0t7's youtube channel on this issue.
Not good for recording rap music, otherwise excellent August 24, 2010 Christopher C. Leonard I'm not sure how to feel about this microphone to be honest. I've owned it since February 2010 and I've literally recorded an entire rap album's worth of material with it. I have somewhat of a muddy voice and delivery and the mic cuts out when I record sometimes. It's difficult to get the correct levels when working with this mic but when it's on, it's on. I've had some songs that sound great as far as clarity and volume and others that sound like it's clipping and my voice doesn't sound clear. I have a great pop filter which did help and channels the air downward away from the mic, but not totally. You get great vocals when just speaking into it and not recording over an instrumental, and I've done impersonations that sound great as well. For a better example, check out my songs on youtube under Chrisdiggidy. Best examples of clear vocals are the song My Baby and Underground Railroad, others like The Message and We Ain't Goin Nowhere are good examples of my worst experiences with this mic. Great mic for the price though.
Pretty good mic! August 22, 2010 This microphone is great! I really like to sing, and I wanted to find a microphone that is good quality and that could plug into your computer/laptop. This microphone is good quality, but I wouldn't say it is as good as a studio mic. It is really good quality for the price though. I definitely reccomend this product.
